Immediate ChangesEdit

I think one of the first orders of business should be changes to the style of the wiki so that it doesn't look so much like answers.wikia. I was scared for a minute there when I saw the graphic at the top left of the screen and it said "wikianswers". I thought I'd just posted on the wrote site! Not fun feeling like an idiot ;) Khono 02:46, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Know a logo you'd like to use, preferably 29 pixels high? --◄mendel► 03:07, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
Adding #wikianswers_logo img { display:none; } to MediaWiki:answers.css would turn the logo off for now. I'd do it myself, but it is necessary to be an admin to edit anything in MediaWiki: namespace. --◄mendel► 03:13, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
That was funny :D
Anyways I will add that code thingy... Darth Pingus (Talk!) (Contribs) (Edits) 15:01, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Looks nice, I lovve that font, put the "fictional" maybe on the left so it actually reads fictional Wikianswers? --80.228.200.178 18:46, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Lol, I think something went wrong there :P --El Nazgir sigEl_Nazgir 19:55, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
Ah, better! I like the way it gives this feeling akin to someone cramming a few words between graffiti to make it change the message, and the font is nice too.--El Nazgir sigEl_Nazgir 20:21, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah looks good. Khono 20:43, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
Thanks... but @Nazgir, that was what I tried to to but I didn't find a font that looked like handwriting or graffiti... but I guess this will do :) Darth Pingus (Talk!) (Contribs) (Edits) 21:29, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Signing policy Edit

Do we want to sign our fiction? --◄mendel► 03:21, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

I've been doing it so far... Cubonestar will destroy you all! Said Bob. Yell at me 03:36, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
Do you think we should make a signing policy? If we do, should sigs use 3 tildes, 4 tildes? Darth Pingus (Talk!) (Contribs) (Edits) 15:01, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
IMO it's nice to leave the option to go either way. One may always check the history to find out who did what if one REALLY wants to know. If some pages develop with many complicated contributions, someone could throw some organization into those pages by perhaps putting the primary author's name in the section titles. That way they'd also come up in the ToC. Khono 15:17, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
I agree with the idea... but we should reccomend people to at least sign Darth Pingus (Talk!) (Contribs) (Edits) 15:20, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
I remember one time I was really annoyed at a wikianswerite (who was telling me to not sign my posts) that I signed my name 10 times on his talk page. If we sign stuff (and sign what people write who don't sign as "--anonymous") , then we can write cooperative fiction such as Can you tell me a bedtime story? without indenting. I would also recommend that people whose signature doesn't start with a link (e.g. Cubonestar) prepend "--" (Cubonestar would then sign himself "--Cubonestar will destroy you all! Said Bob." by writing --~~~) to set the signature off from the fiction. --◄mendel► (not ■1* ) 07:58, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Or, on the other hand, nobody could sign and the coopeative fiction would read rather well; you'd have to see the diffs to find out how it was written. I thin I would like that even more. Either way, it requires us agreeing on a policy. I'm actually in favor of not signing now. --◄mendel► 18:41, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
I think it depends on the format of the answer. Take for example this question. The first section of answers is all tabbed out and so adding in everyones' colourful signatures doesn't really take much away from the reading. It doesn't break the prose. Where as the second section, I believe signatures and tabbing one's contribution would definitely break the prose if there are any more contributions to it. Perhaps we should wait a while and see what evolves out of our contributions, to see whether or not we need to set anything in stone and, if we do, how to word those rules. Author categories Edit

I'd really like to try something new. The automated credits at the bottom of each page show everyone who's touched the page, including who posed the question or who corrected a spelling mistake. It is equally hard to find somebody's fiction by their contributions list because every little edit is listed. I'd like to introduce a category such as Author: El Nazgir for each author to label those who actually wrote the answer(s) for each question (example). To go with that, we'd remove signatures from the fiction completely and leave it up to the page history to show who wrote what (you can easily identify major contributions in by the jumps in page size in the history). If nobody has a better idea, I'd like to start with this project in the new year. --◄mendel► 23:56, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
